Spanning History: Timber Trusses at Eastern Cape Heritage Sites
I have a particular interest in architectural conservation and architectural history and I am chairman of the Border Historical Society. I have been able and privileged to visit and document a wide range of heritage buildings in the Eastern Cape – some with notable timber trusses. Various of these will be presented with some brief information on the building before considering the particular details of the trusses.
Speaker Bio:
William Martinson graduated at the University of the Witwatersrand with a B.Arch in 1987 under Prof. Pancho Guedes, he then completed an M.Arch in Architectural Conservation under Prof D. Radford. He joined the (then) National Monuments Council in Pretoria for six years as a Heritage Architect. He had a brief stint at FKH Architects after which was invited to join Osmond Lange Architects in Johannesburg, working on their Melrose Arch project and the Central Terminal Building at OR Tambo Airport. He relocated to Osmond Lange’s East London office in 2007.
